The Society of St. Benedict is a ministry of St Michael’s Church, open to any Christian who desires to meet regularly to pray and live under the guidance of the Rule of St Benedict in their own situation. The primary aim of the Society is to support and encourage oblates of Benedictine monasteries, and so it recommends that each of its members maintain an active relationship as an oblate (or its equivalent) in a regular monastery.

We meet on the second Saturday morning of every month at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Church to chant the offices and celebrate Mass. We then retire to the Trigg Parish Hall to discuss the daily portion of the Rule and the assigned meditation. A light lunch is served, and we conduct the business of our Society.

The Holy Monastery of Our Lady and St Laurence is where some of our members fulfill their oblature, and is the one recommended to Orthodox members of the Society.

Every Advent and Lent, the Society sponsors a parish retreat for the parish. In addition to the usual monthly routine, a guest speaker offers a series of presentations. In keeping with the Benedictine tradition, this is a silent retreat, which means that quiet time for prayer and reflection is provided. Non-members of the Society are warmly welcomed at these retreats, which are held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

We welcome all Christian men and women, single and married, who wish to incorporate into their lives the Rule of Saint Benedict. By following the Rule, the Society strives to live lives of prayer and service to the Church in order to foster a sense of community united in Christian love and peace.
